Traditional Retreat in Dromantine

Traditional Retreat in Dromantine

Sincere thanks to Fr. Giuseppe Cardamone of the Missionary Servants of the Poor for his excellent retreat. Fr Cardamone was accompanied by a seminarian, Jose who is in his second year of philosophy. The retreat was entitled ‘How to be a Christian in a neopagan era’. Fr Cardamone spoke of the similarities of this current era with that of the world in which the early Church found herself and, with beautiful scriptural and patristic exegesis, explained the glories of Christ and the Redemption won for us and the application of these mysteries in our own lives, beginning with our enfolding into the Blessed Trinity at Baptism. We were also given some information of the Holy work that the missionary servants of the poor are accomplishing in Peru – have a look at their excellent work – http://www.msptm.com/en/

Holy Mass was offered very beautifully. Each day we prayed the Holy Rosary and several hours of the Divine Office (Breviarium Romanum) were said in common.  Exposition and Benediction of the Most Blessed Sacrament gave an opportunity for silent adoration of Our Lord exposed in the monstrance. In between there were opportunities for confession or to walk in the beautiful grounds of Dromantine. In the corridors I found the ordination photograph of a deceased friend, Fr Owen Maginn SMA, dated 1943. Fr Maginn died in 2006, may he rest in peace. My son was baptised by Fr Maginn in 2004 and given his name in his honour.

Thanks to the staff of Dromantine for their kind assistance, comfortable accommodation and delicious meals. Thanks also to Fr McCaughan for supplying the vestments for the Sacred Liturgy. Fr Cardamone is willing to come back next year and I would heartily recommend this retreat to anyone
