We’re just a few days away from our new weekly Latin Mass in Belfast which starts on Sunday 5th March – the first Sunday of Lent. The weekly Mass will take place at 4pm in St Therese Church on the Somerton Road (part of Holy Family parish). We would love to welcome you to join us for these Masses and help you discover the beauty and the prayerfulness of our Catholic tradition.
This will be the first time in many years that the traditional form of the Mass will be celebrated on a weekly basis in Belfast. Three young Down & Connor priests will be offering the Mass regularly – Fr Martin Graham (Adm., St Peter’s Cathedral), Fr Damian McCaughan (CC, St Mary’s on the Hill) and Fr Andrew Black (Chaplain, Belfast City Hospital). They will be supported by priests from the Institute of Christ the King in Ireland who will come up from their foundation in Limerick.
The traditional Latin Mass (sometimes referred to as the Tridentine Mass or the Extraordinary Form of the Mass) has been celebrated occasionally in Belfast for some years now, supported by a community of lay Catholics from across Down & Connor and even further afield. We hope that the new Mass at a regular fixed time and location will encourage more people to come and discover this beautiful part of our Catholic heritage. We also hope that this initiative will add to the many signs of spiritual renewal in Ireland today and be part of the new evangelisation called for by all our recent Holy Fathers. Here in Down & Connor we want to be an ever more living Church – and we believe that the beautiful celebration of the traditional liturgy will play a special part in this work of the Holy Spirit!
May God bless us and the Virgin protect us!
